Spreading the word about the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty
What's a romance novelist doing recommending a soap company's products to friends, family and fans?
Simple -- Pat Ballard wants to spread the word about the Dove company's campaign to help women of all ages and sizes appreciate their beauty. It's a mission Pat echoes in her motivational novels and short stories featuring plus-sized heroines.
In an email Ballard recently distributed, she wrote:
I don't usually do this, but my attention has been brought to a company that is really trying to make a difference in the madness that is going on around us in this world, and I want to share their information with you all.
Dove, as in Dove soap, etc., has a wonderful new campaign celebrating "real" women. Here is a link to an article/press release that came out in September. I'm putting the first paragraph of the article here so you can see the impact of the article.
DoveĀ® unveils a groundbreaking new study today that discusses the implications of a global society that narrowly defines beauty by the images seen in entertainment, advertising and fashion runways and the startling impact this has on women. The result: only two percent of thousands of women from 10 countries around the world consider themselves beautiful.

You can go to this link and do a poll and see the kind of women they're featuring as beautiful. http://www.campaignforrealbeauty.com/
It has been years since I bought Dove products, but as a result of this, I'm doing all I can to help support them. I know that their campaign is a marketing tool, but I believe it is also going to help a lot of women learn to accept themselves as who they are. For that reason, I applaud the genius who came up with this idea!
Feel good about yourselves, all my beautiful loved ones.
Sentiments Pearlsong Press echoes as well.
Happy Holidays!

I am a college senior about to embark on a very challenging honors thesis: I will be examining the images of women in all facets of the media, and its negative effects in society-their poor self-image, and the poor images that men have of women in our society. I am very fascinated by the issue and would greatly appreciate any advice or material you could suggest for my analysis. Thanks so much!!
